About SpectraView II

SpectraView II provides automatic display monitor color calibration and profiling functions for supported models of NEC display monitors.

The software uses a two-way communications link with the display monitor either via the video graphics adapter over the video cable – known as DDC/CI (Display Data Channel - Command Interface) – or via a separate USB connection to the display (supported models only). Using a USB connection to the display is highly recommended for compatibility and speed.

USB drivers for the X-Rite i1, i1Pro2, Datacolor Spyder3, Spyder4, Spyder5, and SpyderX, and BasICColor Discus color sensors are automatically installed if selected in the SpectraView software installation process. Drivers are not needed for the X-Rite i1Display Pro / X-Rite i1Display Pro Plus and NEC MDSVSENSOR3 / NEC SpectraSensor Pro color sensors. Drivers for other color sensors are copied to the SpectraView application directory but are not automatically installed.

Known issues

"Error: Unable to update the ICC profile" error message in Windows 10

An issue introduced in a Windows update prevents SpectraView from being able to replace an existing ICC profile because it is locked by the system. It cannot be manually deleted either.

The following workaround can be used if this issue is encountered:

  1. Open the Windows Task Manager (press CTRL+ALT+DEL and select Task Manager).
  2. From the Windows Task Manager select the "Services" tab.
  3. Look in the name column for the service called "DisplayEnhancementService" and select it.
  4. Right click and select "Stop". The status should change to "Stopped".
  5. While SpectraView is still open and displaying the "Error: Unable to update the ICC profile" error message, click "Retry" and the ICC profile will be updated.
  6. If the error message is immediately displayed again, confirm that:
  7. Restart the "DisplayEnhancementService" by right-clicking on the name again in the Task Manager and selecting "Start."

The "ColorMunki Create" version of ColorMunki is not supported by SpectraView. The "ColorMunki Design" and "Colormunki Photo" versions are supported.

The X-Rite ColorMunki Display device introduced in mid-2011 is not supported.

If the X-Rite ColorMunki software is installed, it will prevent SpectraView from accessing the device even if the main ColorMunki application is not currently running.

If you are using the ColorMunki software prior to version 1.1.0:

SpectraView will detect if the ColorMunki software is running and give the option of closing it automatically.
To use the ColorMunki software again after SpectraView has closed it, you must run the colormunki.exe application from the Startup menu in Windows.

If you are using the ColorMunki software version 1.1.0 or newer:

You must turn off the ColorMunki Service in the Windows Control Panel > "X-Rite Device Services" to allow SpectraView to access the device.
To use the ColorMunki software again you must turn the ColorMunki Service back on.
